If you are one of my readers and have been following my journey ever since, you already have an idea what inspired me to start traveling the world.

“Into the Wild” is a movie that really influenced me to discover what the world has to offer. A guy name Chris McCandless who left what seemed to be a privileged life and started adventuring into the wild. He gave away his money, burned all the cash in his wallet, abandoned his car and began a cross-country journey. He wanted to prove to the world that he did not have to depend on other people to give him stuff that he could go live on his own.

This film gave me goosebumps and had made a big impact on why I changed my life and stop following the routine of life. It helps me realize that my existence in this world has a deeper meaning and it urges me to help people in my own little way, to touch their lives and make a difference.

My first taste of travel begun in 2009 when I left my home country and get a job overseas. On my way, I was lucky I had a one day stop-over in Brunei enough to be able to experience, discover and see the beauty of the city Bandar Seri Begawan. My life has been like a magic carpet ride ever since.

I have listed below the 6 top reasons why traveling is a must.

Don’t you get bored and tired from the daily routine of life? Either you are student, an employee or simply an individual who are struggling for survival, everyone needs to take a break to refresh and recharge your mind and body. Traveling is unplugging from the chaos of life. Disconnecting from the stress, problems and demands either from works, relationships or society’s expectations that we are facing on our daily lives.

Traveling alone helps you discover yourself at the same time. Finding the real you is an enlightening experience. You become self-sufficient and do things for yourself when you travel. It’s a hard feeling to put into words, but when you don’t know who you are, just travel and get lost and you will find yourself eventually.

Visiting new places, meeting strangers and discover new things are some of the benefits when you travel. You will meet people of different cultures and traditions, you will see how they are living, you will talk and spend time with them, adapting and appreciating their cultures and it will help broaden your mind and vision and will change how you see and understand life.

These new experiences will help you become a better and happier person by building self-confidence and increase mental well-being. Our life is defined by experiences. The greater the number of experiences, the better the definition of life becomes.

Having a life on the road is simply challenging your boundaries. Being in foreign lands will force you to step out of your comfort zone and face your fear. You will need to live independently without any help from your family and friends. It will be a great confidence-builder and you will learn so much about the world and most importantly about yourself.

There comes a time wherein you need to deal with unforeseen circumstances even when you planned and organized your trip very well, things can take a surprise turn sometimes. How you approach and deal with unexpected situation will boost to self-confidence and happiness.

Always be the first to break the ice when meeting people. Keep in mind that if you are looking for the good in people, then that’s likely what you’ll find. If you approach things negatively, then that’s how you’ll see them.

Chatting with strangers on the bus or strike up conversation in a bar, talking with locals or to a fellow traveler will make us happier, make us feel not alone and increase our social circle. Simply by talking to interesting people, we are learning more and if you shared the same values and passions then you are most likely to become friends eventually.

Investment in travel is an investment for yourself. We all know how expensive it is to travel and you need to save enough money to finance your trip. Plane tickets cost a lot of money, so as hotels and meals. But it is worth every penny you will spend because memories last forever.

Traveling is learning. It will change how you look life by observing people how they live, talk, behave and react. Somewhere between these experiences, you learn.  It will teach you to live in a moment and later realize how to value experiences over things.

This is my favorite part in traveling. Whenever I travel I always make sure to seek adventures on the road. Jobs fills your pocket while adventures fill your soul. There are different types of adventures to choose whenever you travel. An example of this are mountain climbing, camping, or traveling to different beaches while enjoying surfing or diving.

Whatever adventures you are into and wherever you will go, you will make memories of your adventure which will last a lifetime. You can relive the enjoyment again and again as you look back on the great adventure you had when traveling.

    1. Yes indeed! Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell not stuff to show.
